BLS
Basic Life Support (BLS) generally refers to the type of care provided by first responders, healthcare providers, and public safety professionals to anyone experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, or an obstructed airway. BLS involves knowledge and skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using automated external defibrillators (AED), and relieving airway obstructions in patients of all ages. Here are some key points about BLS:
1. Purpose: BLS aims to maintain blood flow and oxygen supply to vital organs when the heart has stopped functioning.
2. Techniques:
– Conventional CPR: For healthcare providers, it combines chest compressions with mouth-to-mouth breathing at a ratio of 30 compressions to 2 breaths.
– Hands-Only CPR: Recommended for bystanders witnessing an adult suddenly collapse; it involves compression-only CPR without mouth-to-mouth breaths.
3. Critical Skills: BLS providers need critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork to deliver optimal care and improve patient outcomes.
4. AEDs: These devices significantly increase survival chances. Prompt defibrillation is crucial.
Remember, BLS knowledge can make a difference in saving lives!
